“I am pleased that Latvia has succeeded in achieving the country development- important goal of accession to the Organisation for Economic Development and Cooperation (OECD) during my presidency. I would like to thank you, Mr Secretary-General, for the great support you provided to Latvia during its accession process,”

stressed President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis during his meeting with OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurria in the Riga Castle on 29 May 2019.

“Latvia appreciates the OECD’s contribution to the improvement of many Latvian policies. Although Latvia’s GDP per capita has been much closer to the average level of OECD countries, we still need to continue working towards more ambitious goals to ensure the sustainable development of our country and the well-being of our society,” stated the President of Latvia.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the recommendations contained in the OECD Economic and Environmental Performance Reports on Latvia and Latvia’s progress towards inclusive and sustainable development of the country, including the achievements and next steps in reduction of inequalities, the fight against shadow economy, in environmental protection, digitalisation and e-skills, as well as following of sound governance principles in the management of state-owned capital companies.
