Qatar Financial Information Unit, in collaboration with the Egmont Centre of FIU Excellence and Leadership (ECOFEL) hosted on 8-9 January, 2019 a two-day meeting on “Strengthening the Network: Financial Intelligence Units and Members of the Media Consult on Approaches to Relationship Strengthening”, bringing together Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) officials from across the Middle East, Africa, Asia, communications, and media professionals to better understand how FIUs, and the media can collectively contribute to the global fight against money laundering and terrorism financing, and identify ways to engage and complement each other’s work.
This first of its kind event tackled many important topics such as the importance of FIU Operational Independence and Autonomy and the impact upon an FIU’s public image, in addition to the Media practices regarding sensitive issues and stories of national interest.
